The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed one spot in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings, moving from 44th to 43rd globally.
The update, released on Thursday, April 3, 2025, by the world football governing body, was said to reflect Nigeria’s recent performances in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The marginal rise in the global standings comes on the heels of Nigeria’s mixed results in their March international fixtures.
The Super Eagles secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Rwanda in Kigali and battled to a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in the ongoing qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Despite the upward movement, the three-time African champions have slipped out of Africa’s top five, now ranking sixth on the continent.
The Super Eagles now sit sixth on the continent, trailing behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Ivory Coast, and Algeria.
Morocco remains Africa’s top-ranked team, climbing two places to 12th in the world, while Senegal holds steady as the second-best African side at 19th globally.
Egypt (32nd), Ivory Coast (41st), and Algeria (36th) round out the top five.
Globally, Argentina retains its stranglehold on the No. 1 spot. The reigning world champions are followed closely by Spain in second and France in third, with England and Brazil completing the top five.
The Netherlands climbed to sixth, overtaking Portugal (seventh), while Belgium, Italy, and Germany occupied the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions, respectively.
