Real Madrid’s star forward Vinicius Jr has reportedly found himself at the heart of a FIFA investigation that could lead to a two-year suspension from professional football.
The 24-year-old Brazilian has been accused of violating FIFA’s Code of Ethics through alleged involvement in multi-club ownership, a breach of international football regulations.
According to reports, Vinicius Jr, through his father’s company ALL Agenciamento Esportivo, is allegedly linked to the ownership of multiple professional football clubs, including Brazil’s Athletic Club de São João del Rei and Portugal’s Al.
FIFA’s Article 20 and Spain’s Article 22 strictly prohibit active players from holding direct or indirect ownership in professional clubs to avoid conflicts of interest.
It was gathered that FIFA launched the investigation into the 25-year-old winger, following a complaint lodged with the FIFA Ethics Committee by Brazilian investment firm Tiberis Holding.
If found in violation, Vinícius Jr could face serious consequences, including a fine or a suspension from all football-related activities for up to two years.
A potential two-year ban would not only sideline Vinicius Jr but also disrupt Real Madrid’s plans for the current and upcoming seasons, especially as the club is negotiating a contract extension with the forward.
The Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that Vinicius has been an important player for Real Madrid since joining from Flamengo in 2018.
With 105 goals and 79 assists in 311 appearances, he has secured 14 major trophies, including two Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns.
