Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State is the latest opposition leader to publicly endorse President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid for 2027.

Soludo, a prominent figure in APGA and a key political leader in the Southeast said his decision to support Tinubu’s re-election bid was based on his leadership style, describing him as a “national treasure” whose policies align with Nigeria’s long-term development goals.

Soludo also emphasized that APGA and the All Progressives Congress (APC) would work together, as both parties share a common belief in progressivism.

The Governor announced his intention to support Tinubu’s re-election bid during an event at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.

Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that Tinubu is currently on a working visit to the state.

He declared: “I want to inform Mr President that in 2011, Anambra supported the centre. In 2027, the decision remains the same. It is time for all progressives to come together, both APC and APGA; we urge you, Mr President, to lead us in this. We are fully behind you.”

The announcement comes ahead of the November 8, 2025, Anambra gubernatorial election, where Soludo is seeking re-election as APGA’s flagbearer.

Also, Soludo’s endorsement comes amidst a broader wave of political realignment across Nigeria, with several opposition governors and lawmakers defecting to or pledging support for the APC.

Notable defections include Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who recently moved from the PDP to the APC, ending the PDP’s 26-year dominance in the oil-rich state.

In Akwa Ibom, Governor Umo Eno, also of the PDP, has openly backed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Similarly, there are indications that Enugu’s Governor Peter Mbah and Rivers’ suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara are considering aligning with Tinubu without formally leaving the PDP.
