A devastating incident has left many in shock as a stray bullet claimed the life of an Ibadan student during a police chase on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Oyo State.
The Ibadan student, whose name is yet to be identified, was said to be preparing for his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination.
According to an eyewitness account, the tragedy occurred along Gbagi Market Road when a policeman, pursuing suspected fraudsters, reportedly fired a shot that fatally struck the student.
The Ibadan student was said to be riding on his father’s motorcycle when the stray bullet hit him, leading to his immediate death.
Despite being rushed to Welfare Hospital, the student was pronounced dead, leaving his family and community in mourning.
Following the development, angry residents and sympathizers took to the streets, carrying the student’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi to demand accountability.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command has yet to release an official statement.
