As President Bola Tinubu approaches his second anniversary in office, a minister’s performance evaluation initiative is set to take centre stage.
It was gathered that Tinubu has reportedly given a direct order to review the contributions of his cabinet members to his Renewed Hope agenda for Nigerians.
According to sources from the Presidency, the Central Results Delivery and Coordination Unit (CDCU) has been reportedly tasked by the President to conduct the minister’s performance evaluation program.
The CDCU, led by Hadiza Bala-Usman, is said to have hit the ground running and begun compiling a comprehensive review of ministerial scorecards.
Sources close to the presidency indicate that Tinubu gave the CDCU a mandate of assessing the effectiveness of his ministers in delivering on key policy objectives, with outcomes expected to shape the administration’s next phase.
The scorecards, expected to be presented to Tinubu within days, will provide a detailed evaluation of each ministry’s performance, highlighting achievements and areas needing improvement.
The report quoted a source as saying: “Officials of the various ministries have uploaded the reports of their activities and projects on the portal provided by the CDCU. These are based on deliverables that the ministries themselves have set.
“Officials of CDCU have done their detailed verifications and assessments of the uploaded projects. Scores have been assigned based on their findings. The final report for all the ministries is meant for the President.
”While no immediate actions, such as a cabinet reshuffle, are anticipated, the report will equip the president with critical insights into his team’s progress.
The latest minister’s performance evaluation program comes after Tinubu, in October 2024, announced a massive shake-up of his cabinet, sacking some ministers while others were reassigned to other portfolios.
Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye was dismissed from her role as Minister of Women’s Affairs, while Tahir Mamman also lost his position as Minister of Education.
Others affected are the Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John, and the Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Bio Ibrahim.
Tinubu also sacked the minister of state, housing and urban development, Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo.
The CDCU’s dossier was credited with informing the shake-up that led to the swapping of portfolios and resulted in the removal of two underperforming ministers after just 16 months in office.
