Governors elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have unanimously endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid as the party’s sole candidate.

This decision, announced on Thursday, May 22, 2025, has indicated Tinubu’s firm grip on the APC’s political machinery and sets the stage for an intense electoral battle in Nigeria’s upcoming general elections.

The decision to back Tinubu’s 2027 presidential bid was reached after the governors put their decision up for adoption during the party’s national summit at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Chairman of the Progressives Governors and the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma said members of the Progressive Governors Forum are satisfied with the midterm review and performance evaluation result of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He maintained that Tinubu’s re-election bid earned the support of the governors because of his leadership skills.

The governor also cited the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, infrastructure development, and efforts to strengthen national unity as key reasons for their support.

He asserted: “That for Nigeria to get to her destination faster in prosperity, that the president should be used and adopted as our flag bearer for 2027 presidential election, for a second term in office.

“That the governors produced by our All Progressives Congress are hereby charged to take responsibility to market our federal government policies, occupy the political space in their domains, and take responsibility for winning all elections in their states come 2027.

“It is, therefore, my humble pleasure, with total humility, to Almighty God to move that this August assembly adopt and concur the position of progressive governors that Mr President carries our flag 2027 and governors take responsibility for delivering this mandate. I so move as a motion.”

Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, also seconded the motion for the adoption of the President for the 2027 presidential election.
