The 2024/25 PL season has been concluded on Sunday, May 25, 2025 with a dramatic final day, as Manchester City, Chelsea, and Newcastle United clinched the coveted Champions League qualification spots.

The race for the top five, which guarantees a place in Europe’s elite competition, went down to the wire, with five teams vying for three remaining spots.

While Manchester City, Chelsea and Newcastle secured Champions League spots for next season, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest fell short, settling for Europa League and Conference League football, respectively.

Manchester City, under Pep Guardiola’s stewardship, ended their 2024/25 PL season with a commanding performance against Fulham. Manchester City, third at the start of the day, did their job, beating Fulham 2-0 and recovering back to third after a disastrous season for their standards.

Chelsea, led by Enzo Maresca, finished fourth on the table, celebrating a return to the Champions League after a rollercoaster season.

Their crucial victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground confirmed their place among Europe’s elite.

Chelsea’s 2024/25 season represents significant progress for a club that finished 12th and 6th in the previous two seasons.

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s late-season form has seen them finish in the top 5 and qualify for the next Champions League campaign despite losing 1-0 to Everton at St James’ Park.

Aston Villa, despite a valiant campaign, missed out on Champions League football after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

Likewise, Nottingham Forest, who defied expectations during the 2024/25 PL season, fell short after losing to Chelsea. They will compete in the Conference League, a bittersweet outcome for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

Elsewhere, Liverpool clinched the Premier League title, their second in the competition’s history, while Arsenal secured second place, both earning Champions League spots.

Tottenham Hotspur had clinched a Champions League spot after winning the Europa League Cup last week Wednesday.

Also, Crystal Palace’s FA Cup triumph over Manchester City guaranteed them a Europa League place.

Down the EPL table, Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton are going down to the Championship for next season following the confirmation of their relegation from the 2024/25 Premier League.
