The saga surrounding Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen’s transfer is gearing up for the 2025 summer transfer window as Liverpool have reportedly thrown their hat into the ring.

According to a report by the British outlet Caught Offside, Liverpool joined the saga for Osimhen’s transfer to potentially replace Darwin Núñez, who has attracted attention from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Europe.

The EPL champions is expected to face competition with Chelsea and Manchester United among the clubs interested in the striker.

The report reads: “Liverpool want to sign him (Osimhen) this summer, and they are looking at other attacking options as well. It remains to be seen whether they come forward with an offer to sign the Napoli striker.

“He is unwanted at the Italian club, and the Italian champions will look to sell him in the summer. Liverpool will hope to negotiate a reasonable deal for him. It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds.”

Osimhen, the 2023 African Footballer of the Year, has been a standout performer in European football, most notably during his time at Napoli, where he scored 26 goals in the 2022-23 Serie A season, making him the league’s highest-scoring African player ever.

His current stint at Galatasaray, where he dons the iconic red-and-yellow kit, has only heightened interest from top clubs.

The 26-year-old forward, who spent last season on loan at Galatasaray, delivered an impressive performance, netting 37 goals and providing eight assists in 41 appearances.

Osimhen’s transfer fee is expected to be around £63m, which is his release clause with Napoli.
