Few years after its introduction, ChatGPT has continued to revolutionize the AI landscape, driving OpenAI’s annual revenue to $10 billion as of June 2025.
The $10 billion in annual recurring revenue came less than three years after OpenAI launched its groundbreaking ChatGPT chatbot.
A statement by OpenAI spokesperson asserted that this surge in financial growth is an indication of not just the power of cutting-edge technology, but also the growing demand for intelligent conversational agents across industries.
This means that OpenAI’s annual revenue of $10 billion has put the company on track to meet its revenue target of $12.7 billion for the year 2025 despite posting losses of $5 billion last year.
The development also puts the San Francisco-based company on the right path to achieving its set goal of $125 billion by the year 2029, requiring an average annual growth rate exceeding 70%.
According to the statement, the revenue figure includes sales from the company’s consumer products, ChatGPT business products, and its application programming interface, or API.
The company’s revenue surge is also an indication of the widespread adoption of ChatGPT, which has captivated over 500 million weekly active users and three million paying business customers, including industry leaders like Salesforce, Uber, and Morgan Stanley.
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that since its debut in late 2022, ChatGPT has evolved from a viral consumer tool to a critical enterprise asset, with offerings of service such as ChatGPT Enterprise and Team driving productivity across sectors such as healthcare, retail, and finance.
Recall also that OpenAI secured a record-breaking $40 billion funding round in March 2025, led by SoftBank, valuing the company at $300 billion.
This valuation has been reported to highlight the sky-high expectations of investors, including Microsoft, Coatue, and Thrive Capital, who see OpenAI as a cornerstone of the AI revolution.
