The Middle East continues to hot up as Iran attacked a U.S. base in Qatar on Monday, June 23, 2025, forcing Qatar to temporarily close its airspace with several flights disrupted.
The U.S. base in Qatar, named Al Udeid, was hit by several missiles on Monday.
The strike confirmed by Iranian state media comes after the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities over the weekend.
Also, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for the operation, dubbed “Blessings of Victory.”
The Iran’s IRGC described the attack as a “powerful and devastating” strike against Al Udeid, the forward headquarters of U.S. Central Command.
Similarly, the attack was confirmed by a U.S. defense official on Monday.
“I can confirm that Al Udeid Air Base was attacked by short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles originating from Iran today,” the official told Fox News.
“At this time, there are no reports of U.S. casualties. We are monitoring this situation closely and will provide more information as it becomes available.”
In the same vein, Qatar’s foreign ministry confirmed the attack, describing it as “brazen aggression,” but said it had successfully intercepted Iranian missiles.
A spokesperson of Qatar’s foreign ministry, Majed Al Ansari in a press statement said: “The State of Qatar strongly condemns the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. We consider this a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar.
“We reassure that Qatar’s air defenses successfully thwarted the attack and intercepted the Iranian missiles.”
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that the attacked U.S base in Qatar is home to 10,000 American forces and is the U.S.’s largest military installation in the Middle East.
Located southwest of Doha, the base serves as a hub for logistical operations for the U.S. mission to fight ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
It also hosts Central Command’s (CENTCOM) Forward Headquarters, as well as its air forces and special operations in the region.
It has also been used as a headquarters for British involvement in airstrikes against ISIS in Iraq.
The attack came after Iran vowed to retaliate against the U.S. after American B-2 bombers dropped 14 bunker buster bombs on three Iranian nuclear sites.
