Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi has declared that United States President Donald Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for brokering the Rwanda-Congo peace deal.

Tshisekedi made this known after an agreement was signed on June 27, 2025, in Washington, D.C.

Speaking to local media, the Congolese President passionately called for action that goes beyond mere ceremonial signing.

He emphasized the importance of turning promises into tangible results.

He asserted: “If President Trump can mediate and put an end to this war, he deserves the Nobel Prize. I would be the first to vote for him.”

Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that the Rwanda-Congo peace deal is aimed at ending decades of bloodshed in eastern Congo.

The deal, signed by the foreign ministers of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, promises to halt a conflict that has claimed millions of lives and displaced millions more, while opening doors for regional stability and economic growth.

Facilitated by the United States and Qatar, the agreement commits both nations to a 90-day withdrawal of Rwandan troops from eastern Congo and the establishment of a regional economic integration framework.

At a White House ceremony, Trump, flanked by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, called the accord a “glorious triumph,” emphasizing its potential to end one of the deadliest conflicts since World War II.

Congolese Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner stressed the need for disengagement, while Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe hailed it as a new chapter of hope.

Before the Rwanda-Congo peace deal, Trump had also expressed his interest in winning a Nobel Prize.

Trump wrote on his Truth Social account: “This is a Great Day for Africa and, quite frankly, a Great Day for the World! I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this.

“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between India and Pakistan … for stopping the War between Serbia and Kosovo … for keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia … and I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for doing the Abraham Accords in the Middle East.”
