Several countries across the globe have implemented certain immigration polices that don’t allow immigrants to study abroad with their families.
Countries like the United States (U.S.) and the United Kingdom (UK) have restricted Nigerians and Africans from blending education with family.
However, amid the immigration policies, there are still some countries that allow international students to pursue their academic goals while keeping their family close.
Below is a list of five countries where students can study with family;
1. Australia: Australia’s welcoming visa policies make it a top choice for students who want to study abroad with family.
The Australian government allows international students to include their spouse and children under 18 in their student visa application, or apply for a dependent visa later.
Dependents can work, with spouses of postgraduate students enjoying unrestricted work rights, while those of undergraduate students can work up to 48 hours.
2. Canada: Canada’s approach to international students makes it a haven for those looking to study abroad with their families.
The Canadian Super Visa allows parents and grandparents of students to stay for up to two years per visit, with multiple entries over a decade.
Spouses and children can apply for dependent visas, and spouses may qualify for an open work permit, enabling them to work full-time.
3. Germany: Germany also stands out for its tuition-free universities and family-friendly visa options. The country has a Family Reunion Visa that allows spouses, children, and even parents of international students to join them, provided the student meets basic financial requirements. Dependents can live and work in Germany without needing a separate permit.
4. Finland: Finland, ranked the happiest country in the world for seven consecutive years, is also open to students bringing their families along. Spouses can apply for a residence permit processed alongside the student’s application, with full work rights upon approval.
5. New Zealand: New Zealand’s Parent Resident Visa and dependent visa programs allow students to bring their spouses, children, and even parents to this picturesque nation. Spouses can work or be self-employed, and the sponsor’s income must meet basic requirements.
