The world’s richest man and tech mogul, Elon Musk, has announced the formation of a new party called the ‘America Party’.
Musk, who took to his official X handle, said that the ‘America Party’ is a new political force aimed at dismantling what he described as the “entrenched Republican-Democrat duopoly.”
He said the new party promises to restore freedom and fiscal responsibility to a system he calls a “uniparty” riddled with waste and graft.
Following a poll on X where 65% of 1.2 million respondents supported breaking the two-party system, Musk declared: “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that this comes on the heels of Musk’s public fallout with United States President Donald Trump over the controversial “Big, Beautiful Bill.”
Recall that Trump recently signed the bill after it passed both chambers of Congress. The bill includes tax cuts, spending boosts for defence, and an immigration crackdown.
During the heated debates on the bill, Trump said Musk contested the bill because it affected an electric vehicle (EV) mandate that could affect the sales of electric cars.
But the Tesla chief executive officer (CEO) dismissed the claims.Musk also said the US president showed ingratitude, given that without his help, “Trump would have lost the election”.
He also declared to fund a campaign against any lawmaker who supports the bill.
In response, Trump warned that there would be “serious consequences” if Musk funded Democratic candidates to run against Republicans who would vote in favour of the legislation.
