United States President Donald Trump has threatened to slap an additional 10% tariff on any nation that aligns with what he described as BRICS’ anti-American policies.

The U.S. President, who took to his Truth Social account, condemned the stance of the BRICS bloc—Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and their expanded allies— at the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Sunday.

Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that Trump’s threat of slamming an additional 10% tariff on countries that support BRICS’ anti-American policies comes after he had initially announced a sweeping tariff policy, dubbed “Liberation Day.”

The Liberation Day tariff imposed a 10% baseline tariff on all imports entering the United States, with additional “reciprocal tariffs” targeting specific nations.

Recall also that the latest tariff threats come after the BRICS bloc fired a salvo against the emerging trade tariffs policies.

Without naming Trump explicitly, the leaders criticized unilateral measures that “distort trade” and harm emerging economies.

BRICS leaders denounced Trump’s trade strategy, which includes a 10% baseline tariff on all imports, 25% on Canada and Mexico, and up to 70% on nations like China and Japan, effective August 1 after a 90-day negotiation pause ended July 9.

The bloc also warned that the ‘U.S. tariffs’ set to take effect soon could disrupt global supply chains and violate World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.

At the 2025 Rio de Janeiro Summit, BRICS leaders also condemned U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran, labeling them violations of international law and threats to global economic stability.
