Breaking! Ex-President Buhari’s Remains Arrive in Katsina for Final Journey

The late former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s remains have arrived in Katsina State on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

This marks the official commencement of the final journey of the nation’s former leader who passed away at 82 in a London clinic on Sunday. 

The Nigerian Air Force aircraft carrying Buhari’s remains arrived in Katsina at 2pm and was greeted by a brief military ceremony at the Umar Musa Yar’adua International Airport. 

President Bola Tinubu, leading a high-level delegation, personally received the body, joined by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, who accompanied the remains from London.

The remains arrived in Katsina amid heightened security across the state,  with 2,807 Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps operatives deployed to ensure a peaceful ceremony.

Buhari’s remains will be laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, with full state honors, as dignitaries and citizens gather to pay their respects. 

Preparations for the burial are complete, with Islamic funeral prayers (Jana’iza) set to follow the military honors. 

The Federal Government has declared July 15 a public holiday to honor Buhari, and 25 members of the Federal Executive Council will remain in Daura for the third-day prayers on Wednesday.
