Tinubu Honours D’Tigress with $100k Reward Package for AfroBasket Triumph

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a $100k reward package for D’Tigress, Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, to celebrate the team’s victory at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan.

The reward package also included three-bedroom flats and the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour. 

Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that the $100k reward package was announced on August 4, 2025, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Recall that the D’Tigress secured their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title with a 75-68 win against Mali in the final.

The team arrived in Nigeria on Monday with the AfroBasket Trophy and was received by the presidency. 

In his address, Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima praised the excellence of the D’Tigress team.

He praised the team’s determination, noting their performance as a testament to Nigeria’s sporting prowess.
