The United States Mission to Nigeria has announced a new policy targeting international students, declaring that those who fail to attend classes or meet program requirements will face student visa revocations.

The U.S Mission to Nigeria said the U.S Government has tasked the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to monitor attendance and academic engagement, aiming to ensure that students on F-1 visas adhere strictly to their educational commitments.

According to a statement issued on Monday, the student visa revocations policy is to address growing concerns about visa misuse, with officials citing cases where students enrolled in programs but neglected coursework or attendance.

The mission advised all student visa holders to strictly adhere to the terms of their visas and maintain their academic status to avoid any immigration issues.

“If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your programmes of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future US visas.

“Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues,” the mission noted.

Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that this comes after intensified scrutiny of immigrants under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
