This comes after a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter, en route from Accra to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, went off the radar shortly after takeoff at 9:12 a.m.

Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, during a press conference said the crash claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science, and Technology Minister, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, alongside Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye.

The three crew members, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, also perished in the helicopter crash in Ghana.

The chief of staff also directed the country’s flags to fly at half-mast.

He extended condolences to “the servicemen who died in service to the country,” on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the government.
