Nigerians have begun to react after Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed appointed a Chinese National, Mr. Li Zhensheng, as the state’s Economic Adviser.
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that the Bauchi Governor appointed the Chinese national on Friday, August 15, 2025.
The appointment was announced during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre in Bauchi.
The Governor explained that the decision is aimed at positioning Bauchi as a hub for international investment and economic growth.
Mohammed emphasized that the decision to appoint a Chinese national as Economic Adviser aligns with his administration’s goal of attracting foreign direct investment and fostering development in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, education, manufacturing, mining, oil, and gas.
“We are opening Bauchi to the world,” the governor said.
Under the agreement, the state will set up a representative office in China to oversee projects and ensure timely delivery.
Meanwhile, public reactions on social media have reflected polarized opinions.
Some individuals have argued that the Bauchi Governor’s appointment of a Chinese national brings fresh perspectives and access to global resources.
However, some individuals have described the decision as an“insult” to local talent, arguing that qualified Nigerian economists in Bauchi were sidelined.
