The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have announced the repatriation of 51 foreign cybercrime convicts.
The 51 foreign cybercrime convicts, include 50 Chinese nationals and one Tunisian.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued on the official X of the EFCC.
According to the statement, the repatriation, which took place on Thursday, brings the total number of convicted foreign nationals deported in the ongoing exercise to 102 since it commenced on Friday, August 15, 2025.
This operation was said to be conducted on August 21, 2025, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State.
According to the statement, the joint operation from NIS and EFCC targeted a sophisticated syndicate uncovered through actionable intelligence.
The EFCC revealed that these foreign cybercrime convicts were involved in large-scale cryptocurrency investment scams and romance fraud, defrauding victims globally using platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Telegram.
The operation exposed a network operating under the guise of Genting International Co. Limited, utilizing over 1,500 laptops and 4,000 phones to perpetrate their schemes.
The EFCC statement reads in part: “This exercise demonstrates our unwavering commitment to ensuring that Nigeria is not a haven for international criminals.
“The successful conviction and repatriation of these individuals sends a clear message: we will not tolerate the use of our nation’s digital space for illicit activities that undermine our economy and national security.”
