The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the increment of the Nigerian passport fees beginning from September 1, 2025.

The new Nigerian passport fees set the cost of a 32-page passport with a 5-year validity at N100,000 and a 64-page passport with a 10-year validity at N200,000, doubling the previous rates of N50,000 and N100,000, respectively.

The NIS justified the Nigerian passport fee hike by citing the need to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport while offsetting rising production and issuance costs.

According to a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, on Thursday, the fee adjustment ensures sustainability without compromising global security and quality standards.

“The review, which only affects Passport Application fees made in Nigeria, now sets new fee thresholds for 32-page passports with 5-year validity at N100,000 and 64-page passports with 10-year validity at N200,000,” the statement read.

However, the statement clarified that application fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page, five-year passport and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport.

Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that this comes after the Federal Government in August 2024 adjusted passport fees which took effect from September 1, 2024.

At the time, the 32-page, five-year passport booklet was increased from N35,000 to N50,000, while the 64-page, 10-year booklet went from N70,000 to N100,000.

However, many Nigerians have lamented the latest, hike, with many viewing the increase as tone-deaf, given the country’s high inflation and economic hardships.
