The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Mozambique 4-0 at the Stade de Fès on Monday, January 5, 2026, to secure a quarter-final spot at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria defeated Mozambique to maintain their perfect record in the tournament and cemented their status as the team to beat in Morocco.

The three-time African champions wasted no time asserting their dominance. The opening goal arrived in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman finished a flowing team move orchestrated by Alex Iwobi and Akor Adams.

Just five minutes later, the lead was doubled. Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, returning to the scoresheet with intent, pounced on a loose ball in the box after a scramble initiated by a Lookman cross.

Mozambique, appearing in their first-ever AFCON knockout match, struggled to cope with the pace and physicality of the Nigerian frontline.

Despite a few spirited runs from Geny Catamo, the Mambas found the Nigerian defense, led by Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi, impenetrable.

The second half began exactly as the first ended. Only two minutes after the restart, Osimhen secured his brace, tapping home from close range to make it 3-0.

The scoring was rounded off in the 75th minute by Akor Adams, who capped a brilliant individual performance with a powerful strike into the roof of the net.

The win marks a historic milestone, as Nigeria becomes the first team in this edition of the tournament to score four goals in a single match.

With four wins from four matches and 12 goals scored, Eric Chelle’s side is brimming with confidence. The Super Eagles will now travel to Marrakesh for their next fixture.

After Nigeria defeated Mozambique, the team sent a message to their upcoming opponents, likely either Algeria or DR Congo, that they are ready for any challenge.
