The Super Eagles have again been struck by another tragedy after Samuel Chukwueze lost his mother, Sarah Chukwueze after a period of illness.
The sad news was confirmed by his brother, David Chukwueze, who shared emotional tributes on his Instagram story on Thursday.
“Can’t even post ‘RIP, Mom’,” he wrote.
“My forever love just left me without saying goodbye.
“You didn’t even carry your grandchild.”
The family did not disclose the exact cause of death, but sources close to them revealed that Chukwueze’s mother had been ill for some time.
The loss comes just a few days after Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi lost his father in a fatal road accident in Delta State, compounding the sense of grief within the Nigeria national team camp.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in the Umunede area of Delta State.
According to family sources and official reports, Ndidi’s father, a retired military officer, was involved in a collision and was rushed to a hospital in Agbor, where he was unfortunately confirmed dead.
Recall that Samuel Chukwueze was part of the Super Eagles team that finished third at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reacted to the demise of Sarah Chukwueze, the mother of Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze.
In an emotional message, NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi described Sarah Chukwueze as a central and supportive figure in the lives of her children.
“We are aware that Sarah Chukwueze was a vital and supportive presence in the lives of her children, including our international player, Samuel Chukwueze,” Sanusi said.
“Samuel has always, at every opportunity, acknowledged his mother’s influence on his professional development.
“We are sad at her departure, coming only a few days after we had to mourn the sudden passing of the father of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi.
“We pray that God will grant her eternal rest and also grant those she has left behind, including Samuel and his siblings, the fortitude to bear this great loss.”
