The United States Department of the Treasury has announced that President Donald Trump’s signature will appear on the U.S dollar.

This marks the first time in American history that a sitting president’s signature will appear on the nation’s paper currency.

Historically, banknotes have featured the signatures of the Treasurer of the United States and the Secretary of the Treasury, but under a new directive aimed at commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary, the Treasurer’s signature will be replaced by the President’s.

It was announced that Trump’s signature will appear on the U.S 100 dollar bill alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The first $100 bills with the signatures of Trump and Bessent will be printed in June, with others to follow.

Notes currently being printed bear the signatures of former President Joe Biden’s Treasury Secretary, Janet Yellen, and Treasurer Lynn Malerba.

The statement reads: “In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump’s signature will appear on future U.S. paper currency along with the Secretary of the Treasury, marking the first time in history for a sitting president.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance, and fiscal strength and stability,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.

“There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial.”

Current U.S Treasurer Brandon Beach vowed the country’s currency will “continue to stand as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and the unshakable spirit of the American people”.

“As the 250th anniversary of our great nation approaches, American currency will continue to stand as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and the unshakable spirit of the American people under President Trump’s leadership,” said Treasurer Brandon Beach.

“The President’s mark on history as the architect of America’s Golden Age economic revival is undeniable. Printing his signature on the American currency is not only appropriate, but also well deserved.”

It has been a tradition since 1861 for the U.S Treasurer’s signature to appear on banknotes, a tradition that would end under the Trump administration’s plans.

Ahead of the 250th anniversary, Bessent said printing currency bearing Trump’s name would be a “powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country” and the president.

This year sees the 250th anniversary of the formal declaration when the 13 original American colonies, later states, declared their independence from Britain.

The latest development comes after a federal arts commission approved a commemorative 24-karat gold coin bearing the image of Trump, also to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

During his first term in office, President Trump’s name appeared on paper support cheques sent to millions of Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Recall also that Trump had unveiled a $1m Gold Card immigration visa program.

The $1m Gold Card immigration visa card which has an inscription of Trump’s face and signature offers expedited permanent residency to foreign nationals who make a substantial financial contribution to the U.S. government.
