Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has updated its travel frameworks, clarifying countries that don’t need a visa to enter Canada in 2026.
The clarifications offer explanations on entry documentation for international visitors based on their nationality and mode of transport.
Here is everything to know about the countries that don’t need a visa to enter Canada in 2026.
A small, elite group of travelers can cross into Canada with absolute ease. If you fall into this category, you do not need a traditional visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA):
United States Citizens: Can travel freely using a valid U.S. passport.
U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents: Green Card holders are entirely exempt from the eTA and visa requirements when entering by air, land, or sea (must carry a valid Green Card and passport).
St. Pierre and Miquelon Residents: French citizens residing in this territory who fly directly to Canada.
A broader registry of nations allows citizens to bypass traditional embassy visas, provided they travel by air and secure an online eTA beforehand.
