Fresh migration destinations for Nigerians are emerging as professionals, skilled workers, and students are exploring alternative immigration pathways.
This comes in response to the tightening of visa restrictions by the governments of the United States, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.
Reports on immigration trends revealed that the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia are among the top countries set to become migration destinations for Nigerians.
Migration consultants in Nigeria have reported a surge in inquiries for countries for these countries.
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that the UAE recently imposed tougher entry conditions on Nigerian travellers and banned transit visa applications entirely.
Similarly, Canada recently raised proof of funds to N17 million for Express Entry applicants.
Also, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria said Nigerians seeking to travel to the nation on non-immigrant visas will now receive single-entry three-month permits.
Following the development, other countries have emerged as alternative destinations as Nigerians have begun to make enquiries.

1). United Kingdom
One of the countries is the UK. The UK’s digital visa system is gaining attention among Nigerian professionals, particularly in fields like healthcare, IT, and engineering.
According to migration consultants, the UK’s decision to raise the skill threshold for its Skilled Worker visa to RQF Level 6 (graduate level) has not deterred applicants, as many Nigerian professionals already meet these criteria.
Additionally, the UK’s Graduate visa, allowing students to stay for 18 months post-study, remains a draw for Nigerian students despite the reduced duration from two years.
2. Germany
Another country emerging on the horizon is Germany. Germany’s skilled worker routes are also seeing increased interest, particularly among Nigerians in technical and vocational fields.
Germany’s immigration policies, which emphasize labour market needs, offer pathways for professionals with qualifications in high-demand sectors like engineering, IT, and healthcare.
Migration consultants note that Germany’s relatively straightforward visa processes and opportunities for permanent residency are appealing to Nigerians facing barriers elsewhere.
The German Skilled Immigration Act allows non-EU nationals with recognized qualifications to apply for work visas, making it a viable option for those navigating the evolving landscape of Nigerian migration trends.
3). Australia
Also, Australia’s points-based migration framework is another option for Nigerians seeking long-term relocation.
The system, which evaluates applicants based on age, education, work experience, and English proficiency, resonates with Nigeria’s young and educated workforce.

Consultants noted that Ireland’s policy allowing spouses of permit holders to work without additional permits is a major point.
Additionally, Ireland’s post-study work visa, offering up to two years for graduates, appeals to Nigerian students.
5). New Zealand
New Zealand’s points-based Skilled Migrant Category is another option for Nigerians seeking immigration pathways.
The system evaluates applicants based on age, qualifications, work experience, and job offers, resonating with Nigeria’s young, educated professionals.
New Zealand’s high quality of life and demand for workers in sectors like construction, healthcare, and IT are key attractions for Nigerians.
6). Portugal
