Nigeria’s women’s Basketball team, D’Tigress, has clinched the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket trophy, securing their fifth consecutive title with a 78-64 victory over Mali in the final on Sunday, August 3, at the Palais des Sports Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The defending champions, led by Coach Rena Wakama, showcased their dominance on the African basketball stage, extending their unbeaten streak to 29 games and cementing their legacy as the continent’s most formidable women’s basketball team.
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that the D’Tigress showed a dominant display in the final.
Despite Mali’s defense and early momentum, D’Tigress, powered by veteran leadership from Ezinne Kalu and Promise Amukamara, maintained control.
Kalu delivered 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Amy Okonkwo and Victoria Macaulay contributed significantly with 15 and 13 points, respectively, to secure the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket trophy for the Nigerian team.
This triumph not only highlights Nigeria’s basketball prowess but also earned them a direct qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin.
This victory further solidifies Nigeria’s status as a basketball powerhouse in Africa, with the team remaining unbeaten against African opposition since their last loss to Cameroon in 2015.
