Several European leaders have strongly criticised Russia over strikes on Ukraine, which have reportedly led to the death of at least 18 civilians, including four children, and also damaged the European Union’s diplomatic mission in Ukraine’s capital on August 28, 2025.
The strikes, which were said to be a barrage of 629 missiles and drones, have been declared as one of the deadliest attacks on Kyiv since July 2025.
It was also gathered that the Russian strikes on Ukraine demolished a five-story residential building in the Darnytskyi district, leaving rescue workers scrambling through smoldering rubble to find survivors.
Reacting, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, in a press statement, said: “I’m outraged by the missile and drone attack on Kyiv, killing men, women, and children. And damaging our EU diplomatic mission. My thoughts go out to our brave staff. Russia’s strikes on Kyiv will only strengthen Europe’s unity and Ukraine’s defiance.”
Ursula has also emphasized that a new package of “tough sanctions” against Russia will be unveiled soon. She noted ongoing work to use frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction, according to DW.
Similarly, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer has condemned the attacks as an assault on civilians, saying, “Putin is killing children and civilians and sabotaging hopes for peace. This bloodshed must end.”
Likewise, President of France Emmanuel Macron, in his words, described the strikes as “629 missiles and drones in a single night over Ukraine: this is Russia’s idea of peace. Terror and barbarism,” highlighting that residential areas and civilian infrastructure were deliberately targeted.
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that the latest attack came after both the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, met with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, at different intervals recently over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
