Anthony Joshua Pens Emotional Tribute to Deceased Friends

​Former two-time heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua has penned an emotional tribute to deceased friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, in a post following a tragic car accident in Nigeria. 

Taking to Instagram and X social media accounts on Sunday, January 4, 2026, Joshua penned his tribute, sharing a photograph alongside the families of the victims, captioned simply: “My Brothers Keeper ❤️ 🕊️ ❤️.” 

Both Sina and Latz will be laid to rest later on Sunday (today).

The post marks Joshua’s first personal public statement since the devastating incident on December 29, 2025, which has sent shockwaves through the global boxing community.

​The accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while Joshua was on holiday in Nigeria, celebrating a recent knockout victory over Jake Paul. The vehicle, a black SUV carrying Joshua and three others,  collided with a stationary truck.

Joshua sustained minor injuries in the incident that killed his friends, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele on Monday, December 29, on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The 36-year-old boxer, who was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve.

Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that Joshua penned the tribute after returning to the United Kingdom on Friday, January 2, 2026.

It was gathered that the boxer landed at London’s Stansted Airport in a private jet on Friday evening.

Recall also that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver behind the wheel during the tragic accident involving former world heavyweight champion has been arraigned before the court on Friday. 

The driver was arraigned before a Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State to face a four-count charge stemming from what the police described as a high-speed collision that claimed the lives of two of the boxer’s close associates.

The defendant also appeared before Chief Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun. The charges brought against him by the Ogun State Police Command include dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and operating a vehicle without a valid National Driver’s Licence.

After Joshua’s driver was arraigned the court granted him bail in the sum of ₦5,000,000 with two sureties and adjourned the case to January 20, 2026, for trial.

He was remanded pending the time he meets his bail condition.

Confirming the development, the Police said the 46-year-old driver was formally charged in connection with the accident.

“I wish to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode (male), aged 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, 2nd January, 2026,” the Police stated.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, Joshua’s driver was arraigned on four counts.

The charges include dangerous driving causing death, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F:135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, as applicable in Ogun State.

Other counts are reckless and negligent driving, contrary to Section 6(1) of the same Act; driving without due care and attention causing bodily harm and damage to property, contrary to Section 7(1); and driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence, contrary to Section 10(1) of the Federal Highway Act.
