The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an expedited review of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results following widespread outcry over the reasons for the mass UTME failure seen this year.

The examination body said the review came after it received an unusual volume of complaints regarding discrepancies in the released scores.

Recall that JAMB, in its official data revealed out of the 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the 2025 UTME, only 420,415 scored above 200, representing just over 21% of test-takers.

A staggering 78.49% scored below the 200-mark threshold, with less than 1% achieving scores above 300.

With over 1.5 million candidates scoring below 200 out of a possible 400, concerns began to emerge about the possible reasons for the mass UTME failure.

Some individuals have lamented about technical glitches, incomplete questions, and systemic educational challenges as part of the reasons for the 2025 mass UTME failure.

Reacting to the concerns and public outcry, JAMB, in a statement on Monday, said it is fast-tracking its annual system review, a comprehensive analysis of the examination process that typically occurs months after the exercise.

The statement reads in part: “The review encompasses three key stages: registration, examination, and result release.

“During the examination phase, JAMB ensures that every candidate is allowed to sit for the test.

“Should any technical issues arise, the board reschedules the examination for affected candidates without hesitation.”

To address the concerns of the mass UTME failure, JAMB said it is engaging experts, including members from the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria, chief external examiners who are heads of tertiary institutions, and the Educational Association and Research Network in Africa.

The board stated that if any glitches are identified, appropriate remedial measures will be implemented promptly.

As the review progresses, JAMB has urged the public to remain patient.

It assured that any identified issues will be addressed in line with its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
