The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially released the 2026 cut-off marks for university and polytechnic admissions
The release of the 2026 cut-off marks for university and polytechnic admissions follows the conclusion of the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions.
Chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the meeting held in Abuja on May 11, 2026, brought together Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts to determine the minimum standards for the upcoming academic session.
During the session, stakeholders reached a consensus on the minimum tolerable scores required for various categories of higher education.
For the 2026/2027 academic cycle, the following benchmarks have been set:
- Universities: 150
- Colleges of Nursing: 150
- Polytechnics and Monotechnics: 100
- Colleges of Education: Exempted from UTME
The board emphasized that these figures represent the national minimum standard. While individual institutions are permitted to set higher benchmarks based on their specific departmental requirements, no school is allowed to admit a candidate who falls below these 2026 JAMB admission cut-off marks.
A significant highlight of this year’s announcement is the new policy regarding Colleges of Education and certain agricultural programs.
Alausa announced that candidates seeking admission into the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) program with at least four credit passes are no longer required to sit for the UTME
Meanwhile, several institutions have submitted their 2026 cut-off marks for admissions.
The submitted institutions’ minimum admissible score was displayed to journalists during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions to Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja on Monday with Pan-Atlantic University adopting 220, the highest minimum score on the list.
Several top institutions, including Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Benin, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, University of Nigeria, and Covenant University adopted 200 as their minimum cut-off marks.
Lagos State University and Lagos State University of Science and Technology fixed 195, while Lagos State University of Education adopted 185.
