Belgium Football team has taunted the U.S after trashing the Men’s national team 4-1 in the early hours of Tuesday.
In a match overshadowed by political lobbying and a reversed suspension, Belgium’s clinical elite class exposed the Americans in a 4-1 Round of 16 routing at a stunned Seattle Stadium.
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that the fiery animosity surrounding the match ignited less than 24 hours before kickoff.
USMNT star forward Folarin Balogun had been shown a straight red card during the Round of 32 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, which carried an automatic one-match ban.
In a staggering turn of events, U.S President Donald Trump personally intervened, calling FIFA President Gianni Infantino to urge a review of the decision.
FIFA subsequently used a probationary loophole in its disciplinary code to defer Balogun’s suspension, clearing him to start against Belgium.
The decision provoked immediate fury across European football circles, with UEFA branding the decision “incomprehensible and unjustifiable.”
Before the match, Belgium Federation also rejected the move, describing FIFA’s decision as unacceptable.
Immediately following the match, the official media channels of Belgium taunted the U.S, posting pictures of their roaring celebrations captioned with a cheeky, “Overturn this.”
They followed it up on X (formerly Twitter) by reigniting the eternal sports vocabulary war, writing: “It’s called FOOTBALL.”
Speaking after the match, Belgium midfielder Nicolas Raskin said his team felt a “sense of injustice” over the one-match ban for Balogun being suspended by FIFA
“A lot has happened off the pitch over the last two days,” said Belgium and Rangers midfielder Raskin.
“There was a sense of injustice within the squad, and we were determined to respond on the field.”
Belgium captain Youri Tielemans insisted the affair had boosted his side.
“We told ourselves we had to respond on the pitch. That’s what we did,” he said.
After Belgium scored their fourth goal several of their players were pictured dancing in a style similar to the ‘Trump dance’ – where he rocks his hips and slowly pumps his arms – which gained notoriety during the 2024 U.S presidential campaign.
