Geopolitical instability in the Middle East has spiked to dangerous new heights after a newly disclosed intel report reveals an alleged Iranian plot to kill U.S President Donald Trump.
The explosive intelligence, which was said to have been passed to U.S officials by Israeli intelligence agencies, is threatening to push the volatile Washington-Tehran relationship to the brink of an all-out military confrontation.
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that the development comes as the U.S. and Iran engage in direct military exchanges near critical maritime chokepoints.
According to reports from The Wall Street Journal and CNN, Israel provided the United States with the intel report to allegedly kill Trump.
While U.S. defense agencies have monitored a “steady drumbeat” of general threats originating from Iran, officials noted that this specific warning detailed a concrete, newly formulated plan to target the American leader.
Though U.S. agencies are still working to independently verify the details, the severity of the threat has already dictated strict military and presidential movements.
Tehran’s motive is heavily rooted in historical grievances.
Iranian leadership has repeatedly vowed severe retaliation against Trump since his first term in office, when he authorized the 2020 drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Quds Force.
The reality of the threat manifested visibly during President Trump’s return from the recent NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey.
In a highly unusual security maneuver, the U.S. Secret Service requested that Trump swap aircraft. Rather than flying back to Washington on his high-tech, newer jet, the President departed Turkey on an older model of Air Force One, sending the main aircraft ahead to the UK as a precautionary decoy.
When questioned aboard Air Force One regarding the heightened security protocols, President Trump did not mince words:
”They want to take out the U.S. leader—me,” Trump told reporters. “I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long. These are evil, sick people.”
The timing of the intelligence leak could not be more volatile. The U.S and Iran are currently trading kinetic strikes across multiple fronts.
U.S had launched strikes in the Strait of Hormuz after Iranian forces targeted three commercial vessels in the vital trade artery.
In swift retaliation for U.S counter-offensives, Tehran launched a barrage of strikes targeting U.S. military infrastructure across Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan.
