Liverpool Forward Diogo Jota’s funeral details have been confirmed after he and his brother Andre Silva lost their lives in a tragic car accident.
The two brothers, tragically killed in a car crash in Spain on July 3, 2025, will be laid to rest in their hometown of Gondomar, Portugal, on Saturday, July 5.
Diogo Jota’s funeral details include a wake set for Friday, July 4, at 4 PM at the Capela da Ressurreição in São Cosme, Gondomar.
Thousands of family, friends, and well-wishers, including Portugal’s President Marcelo de Sousa, are expected to gather at the wake ceremony to pay their respects.
The funeral mass will follow on Saturday at 10 AM at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, the same church where Diogo married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, just 11 days before the tragedy.
Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that this comes after the brothers’ bodies arrived in Gondomar early Friday morning, met with applause and tears from fans lining the streets, a testament to their profound impact both on and off the pitch.
Recall also that the crash that claimed Diogo, 28, and Andre, 26, occurred on the A-52 highway in Zamora, Spain, when their Lamborghini Huracan suffered a suspected tyre blowout, veered off the road, and burst into flames.
It was gathered that Diogo had been advised against flying due to recent lung surgery, leading the brothers to drive toward Santander for a ferry to the UK.
This development has been generating massive tributes across the world since Thursday.
Liverpool has since opened physical and digital books of condolence, lowered flags to half-mast, and immortalized Jota’s No. 20 shirt as a symbol of his legacy.
Also, former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, club legend Sir Kenny Dalglish, and current manager Arne Slot have paid their tributes to Jota and his brother.
Liverpool players also shared emotional messages in memory of their fallen teammate.
Alexis Mac Allister posted on Instagram: “I can’t believe it. I will always remember your smiles, your anger, your intelligence, your companionship and everything that made you a person. It hurts a lot, we will miss you. Rest in peace dear Diogo.”
Dominik Szoboszlai added: “Words cannot describe how heartbroken and devastated we are… Your smile, your love for the game will never be forgotten. We will miss you so much, but you will stay with us forever, on and off the pitch. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Rest in peace, brother.”
