Liverpool forward Diogo Jota’s funeral rite was held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in his hometown of Gondomar, near Porto.

The 28-year-old Portuguese forward, tragically killed in a car crash alongside his brother André Silva in Spain, was honored by family, teammates, and fans in an emotional ceremony at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar.

Many players, family, friends, and well-wishers were seen with outpouring emotions as Jota was committed to Mother Earth.

Diogo Jota’s funeral in Portugal saw Liverpool stars like Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, and Alexis Mac Allister join mourners, carrying wreaths and visibly in tears as they paid their respects.

Former teammates, including Jordan Henderson and Ruben Neves, who served as pallbearers, also attended the funeral ceremony.

Bishop Manuel Linda also addressed a homily to Jota’s children Dinis, Duarte, and Mafalda, offering solace to a family grappling with unimaginable loss. Outside the church, fans lined the streets, some clapping as the coffins were carried.

Recall that the devastating accident occurred in the early hours of July 3 on the A-52 motorway in Zamora, Spain, when a suspected tire blowout caused Jota’s Lamborghini SUV to veer off the road and burst into flames.

Both Jota and his 25-year-old brother André, a footballer for Penafiel, lost their lives. The accident came just weeks after Jota’s marriage to Rute Cardoso, his partner since age 16 and mother of their three children.
