Ghana has donated 40 metric tonnes of premium cocoa aid to Palestine, reinforcing its commitment to global humanitarian aid.

The donation was announced by President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra.

Maham, in his address, said the cocoa aid to Palestine is aimed at alleviating hunger and providing nutritional support to families in Gaza amidst the ongoing crisis.

They said that the donation consisted of Golden Tree-branded chocolates and other cocoa-based products.

He also handed over the cocoa aid to Palestinian Ambassador Abdul Fattah Ahmed Khalil al-Sattari.

Mahama emphasized that Ghana’s cocoa donation to Palestine is both symbolic and practical, highlighting cocoa’s role as a superfood rich in antioxidants, iron, and magnesium.

He stated: “Cocoa represents our national values of generosity and resilience, and we hope it brings nourishment and comfort to those facing unimaginable hardship.

“It is also a powerful superfood, rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and essential minerals, which we hope will provide nourishment and comfort to families facing unimaginable hardship in Gaza.

“Ghana supports a peaceful, negotiated two-state solution between Israel and Palestine, in line with international law and United Nations resolutions.

“We remain firm in our support for a negotiated two-state solution in line with international law and UN resolutions—one that guarantees the rights of both Palestinians and Israelis to coexist peacefully.

“We urge the international community to continue supporting efforts for peace and stability in the region. It is in our collective interest to preserve lives, protect dignity, and uphold justice.”

In his reaction, Ambassador Al-Sattari expressed profound gratitude, noting that Ghana’s cocoa donation to Palestine will bring joy to children and families in Gaza, where starvation and hardship have intensified due to the ongoing blockade and conflict.

“If this chocolate arrives in Gaza, you cannot imagine the happiness it will bring,” he said.

This development comes as several countries have been contributing aid to support Palestine over the humanitarian situation in the country, particularly Gaza.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated since October 7, 2023, after Hamas attacked Israel, killing over 1,200 Israelis.

This was followed by Israel’s military operations and blockade, exacerbating starvation and displacement for several residents in Gaza.

Global aid to Palestine has included contributions from the European Union, which allocated €170 million in 2025 for humanitarian aid, supporting food, water, healthcare, and shelter.

The United States, a major donor, has provided over $674 million since October 2024, including $404 million announced in June 2024 for essential services like food and medical care.

Other nations, such as Canada, which pledged $40 million in July 2025, and Arab states like Qatar, contributing $1.3 billion since 2012, have also played significant roles.
