The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State Governor and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the suspended National Secretary.
The sweeping decision was ratified by a vast majority of delegates at the party’s National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The PDP expelled Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, and others after a motion was raised by Chief Olabode George, former National Vice Chairman of the party (South), during the ongoing convention in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
Hon Samaila Buga, Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi, seconded the motion.
The delegates then gave a nod to the motion as the PDP expelled Wike.
The PDP said the expulsions are a direct result of alleged anti-party activities and months of escalating hostilities within the opposition party.
The motion reads: “MOTION FOR THE EXPULSION OF THE FOLLOWING PERSONS FROM THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY FOR ANTI PARTY ACTIVITIES AND GROSS BREACHES OF THE PARTY’S CONSTITUTION PURSUANT TO ARTICLES 10(6) & 58(1), (B),(C),(F),(I), (J) & (L) AND 59(1)(G) OF THE PDP CONSTITUTION 2017 (AS AMENDED).

“The decision which was promptly ratified by an overwhelming majority of delegates, underscores the party’s commitment to eradicating internal divisions and anti-party conduct that have plagued its progress.”
Meanwhile, the PDP on Saturday ratified Ambassador Umar Damagum as its substantive National Chairman at an Elective National Convention in Ibadan.
The ratification officially ends Damagum’s tenure as Acting Chairman and sets the course for the party’s leadership into the crucial 2027 general elections.
The convention, held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, saw governors, federal lawmakers, and thousands of delegates converge despite recent internal and legal challenges.
The motion to ratify Damagum was moved by Tony Abineri, Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the party, on behalf of the 3,000 delegates present at the convention, held at the main bowl of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The motion was seconded by Edward Marshal and is said to be in accordance with Section 32 of the PDP Constitution as amended.
Moving the motion, Abineri said: “I moved the motion for the ratification of Umaru Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party.
“This is in accordance with Section 32 of the Constitution of the PDP as amended.”
Addressing the delegates, Oyo State Governor and Vice-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Seyi Makinde, lauded the commitment of PDP members toward the growth of the party.
He said: “It was a long stress of battle to get to this point. The memory of the 2025 PDP Elective Convention will remain evergreen not only in the memory of the members but the entire nation as a whole.”
