Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s burial, initially scheduled for Monday, July 14, 2025, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

Buhari’s burial postponement was announced by Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State.

The Governor announced the burial was postponed following consultations with his family and logistical considerations.

He said: “We have made consultations with his family and people around him in London, and we have concluded that the body will arrive tomorrow by noon.”

Radda said the burial will now take place at 2 p.m. in Daura, Buhari’s hometown in Katsina State.

While the Governor didn’t give many details, Pan-Atlantic Kompass gathered that Buhari’s burial postponement was due to paperwork needed for the repatriation of his remains from London, United Kingdom to Nigeria.

Although the Nigerian government has already started the documentation process, it was gathered that the process couldn’t be completed in time to allow the arrival of Buhari’s remains in Nigeria on Monday.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in the United Kingdom to accompany the remains of Buhari to Nigeria.

Shettima is accompanied by President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to oversee the repatriation.

Other members of the Nigerian government delegation are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.

However, despite the efforts, they were unable to complete the documentation process in good time to allow them to repatriate the remains of the former President.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that the process is at the final stage.

The delegation is expected to accompany the former president’s remains back to Nigeria by 12 noon, ahead of the burial scheduled for Tuesday, July 15, at 2:00 PM in Daura.

Former President Buhari passed away on Sunday after suffering a prolonged illness.

His demise has already been generating tributes across Nigeria and elsewhere.

Buhari’s burial is expected to draw dignitaries, including President Tinubu to his home state of Katsina, as all is being prepared for his Islamic burial, though now delayed because he died overseas.
