Hunter Biden, the son of former United States President Joe Biden, has doubled down on his controversial comments linking Melania Trump, the first lady of the U.S., to a sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein, dismissing Trump’s $1bn lawsuit threat as a “distraction.”

Hunter made these remarks during an interview on the YouTube series Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan on Wednesday, August 14, 2025.

Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that Biden’s initial comments, made in an earlier Channel 5 interview, cited reports from journalist Michael Wolff and a 2019 New York Times article, claiming Epstein allegedly facilitated the introduction of Melania and U.S. President Donald Trump in the late 1990s.

However, Melania’s legal team, led by attorney Alejandro Brito, swiftly issued a letter on August 6, 2025, demanding a retraction and public apology, labeling the statements “false, defamatory, and extremely salacious.”

The letter warned of a lawsuit by Melania Trump seeking over $1 billion in damages for alleged financial and reputational harm.

However, in the latest development, Hunter Biden has dismissed Trump’s $1bn lawsuit threat, reiterating his claims and challenging the U.S. President to clarify his relationship with Epstein in a deposition.

Biden also laughed off the apology request, stating, “F*** that! That’s not going to happen,” and called the Melania Trump lawsuit threat a “designed distraction.”

He argued that the focus should be on Epstein’s crimes, not on who introduced whom, saying, “This is about hundreds, if not over a thousand, minors, children, who were raped by Jeffrey Epstein.”

He continued: “What I said was what I have heard and seen reported and written primarily from Michael Wolff but also dating back to 2019.

“Sources said Jeffrey Epstein claimed to be the person who introduced Donald Trump to Melania at the time.

“And then it was, I think, excerpted in a book that was published by Vanity Fair and I think it’s been repeated by journalists and authors since then. But the primary source was the interviews that Michael Wolff has been conducting, in which he has actual tapes of, I think, hours and hours and hours of interviews with Jeffrey Epstein directly.

“The fact of the matter is that I don’t think these threats of a lawsuit add up to anything other than a designed distraction because it’s not about who introduced who to whom, I don’t know how that, in any way, rises to the level of defamation to begin with.

“But the fact of the matter is this is about hundreds, if not over a thousand, minors, children, who were raped by Jeffrey Epstein, and I don’t believe in guilt by association alone, but the connections are so glaringly obvious that I think they’re trying to use other things to distract.”

Pan-Atlantic Kompass reports that this controversy has reignited public scrutiny of Trump’s past association with Epstein, a convicted sex offender whose network continues to generate headlines.

While Trump has denied any wrongdoing and distanced himself from Epstein, the issue remains a lightning rod for speculation.
